Serratus anterior muscle starts from the surface of the upper part of the ribcage (usually on the eighth or ninth side of a person's rib). And then continues towards the entire anterior area of the body before settling at the scapula. Three parts of this muscle are required in pulling the scapula forward towards the thorax.
